thats pretty cool that it just hatched in the windowsill.

the other morning when i got up there four baby turtles swimming around in the pool. all about the size of a quarter. funny thing is 3 were soft-shelled turtles and 1 was a snapping turtle. all hatched at same time and found their way to the pool tho. i dipped them up and took them to the pond.

I'm pretty sure it is a Musk Turtle. I used to find them when I was a child. They are very tiny and very cute but they are mean when they grow up. They don't get very big and grow moss on their backs. I can't believe it hatched in your kitchen, that neat!!!

That is too cute for words! I was thinking it was about time for them to start hatching. We have a couple of turtle nests marked so we can maybe catch them hatching-we have a bayou in back of our place too.

I agree. Around here we call them stinkpots. And boy do they live up to their name. They smell very foul. I have hatched several different types of turtles and this is my least favorite to find. Its usually a surprise what comes out cause when I find a nest I just take them home and incubate them to see what they are.

Looks like it is a musk turtle, thought it was a snapper. Learn something everyday, lol. http://www.jamesriverpark.org/images/wildlife_herps_musk-turtle.jpg

bockbock2008, is it hard to hatch turtles ? What does the temp have to be to incubate them?

Beefy, great save. The softshell turtles are my most favorite, they look similar to sea turtles... to me anyways.
