I know they are turkeys...

Oh Boy!!

Guineas are such fun to start with, but..

and it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye....

Then the assaults start, just little squabbles first, then the brass knuckles and knives come out..

Next thing they want guns, they can’t afford them so they decide to try highway robbery...

Then they start dealing dope and getting involved in politics, which means assassinations and bloody coups..

Enjoy them while you can.

I’ve never understood how anyone thinks the females sound like they are saying “buckwheat” I hear “come back, come back”. 😆
I don’t really hear human words in their calls at all! My hubby is a big birder and so I’ve done some birdwatching with him. Most songbirds have a call that is described in terms of human speech, like chickadees say “chick-a-dee” (yeah that one’s easy!). Almost none of them remind me of human speech. So when I hear the guinea hen’s call, I think “buckwheat” but I hear it more as that unmistakeable female two syllable call and interpret as “checking in” versus “mild alarm”.

That's good, and you will get hours of entertainment from them. They eat bugs, most start off w/them for tic control. They let you know when there's an intruder, or a car goes by, or it's raining, or..
We have divinely noticed how vocal they are lol. They are also protective of the other 6 chicks they brooder with. We have 30+ birds and 3 goats on top of the more common house hold pets so we always get plenty of entertainment. When my hubby gets cranky I send him out the the animal yard. He always come out all smiles lol

I've got a cpl of keets that I've been putting outside in the kennel for short periods this week. My males stand guard outside the kennel.
I was worried bc they're still small enough that they find ways to escape. My worry was unfounded; all it took was a peck on the head and they found their way back in the kennel and stayed there. Lol.
