We have rats here too.But maily in the coop area's horse stall etc.Most of the rats here are burowing and if We put any poison out We make sure it is contained or put in the hole's.I have a poodle which has never bothered dead thing's here what ever it may be but have always kept a close eye for our neighbor's Aust.shepard cattle dog.She has been a natural groundhog killer and We have seen her going for rats in the past before We started putting ou the poision's.She is a pretty much common everday fixture here again now so maybe since We are back up and running again the rat's will move on I hope.

A few years ago I spent horrifying amounts of money at the vet when my dog Artie was poisoned by a poisoned rat carcass.
We didn't have poison out, it wandered over from the neighbors and died in our yard.

What I am understanding you to say is that the predators are coming back and taking over your livestock,....you want to get some poisoned rats to put out for the predators to eat...your intentions are to pick up the not eaten ones in the morning and put them out late at night...and if I am reading it properly...I say Go for it....others have done when there is not an end in sight. foxes are very trap shy.

just a little side note on rat poison. If your dog eats the poison or a poisoned rat, quickly find as much bacon grease as you can find. Lab sized dog maybe two pounds or more. warm it slightly and let the dog eat as much as it can and no water at all. Keep the dog in a place where a large mess can be easily cleaned up. It's system will purge completely and I mean completely. A vet taught us this years ago and so far it has always worked. Fortunately we have not had this problem for a long time.

yes it has worked very well on one saint bernard two labs and a wiemerainer. It does induce vomiting within minutes. Never had any lasting effects at all. All dogs lived long lives.

Just for future reference, how do you get hydrogen peroxide down a dog's throat?

10cc or larger syringe, at least one helper to wrestle the dog with you, and a bottle of gin for afterwards.

We had the same problem with rats! Those things were even making nest in our brand new car and eat the wiring!
We were told to put out this stuff called ONE BITE..It works.......One bit and there dead...Got rid of that problem...
Just make sure you don't let the chickens roam about while you're getting rid of them...

I keep it out in our sheds and so far haven't had anymore rats...
