I know what I think of this.... what do you think?

I have WHAT in my yard? :

On 9/11 some citizens interfered in the operation of an air craft and deliberately drove that plane into the ground killing themselves - and everyone else on board - going directly against what airline personnel are told to do and what many of them were told to do by authorities at the time.

They did it because they thought that the aircraft was going to be used to hurt other unknown people.

We lauded them as heroes, got T-shirts with their catch phrases on them and feted their families all over the country. We erected shrines to their bravery and sacrifice.

This guy put himself in harms way to help another human being. He got hurt. Badly.

The corporation is and always will be within its rights to refuse to have anything to do with him. He has asked for nothing. I am stunned at how many of you would give him just that.

I so agree, we will only acknowledge good samaritans if it effects us directly, so sad. What has our county become, when people will turn an idle eye toward someone in need.

Anyone who helps anyone else for whatever reason and puts themselves in harms way without any thought for themselves are HERO's.... think about it all of you....would you have done what this chap did....and he did it without thinking about it.... therefore in my eyes he is a hero and deserves a slap on the back...... and actually he should receive his medical expenses for free......thats what would have happened here...... so Bravo to the hero and all the many hero's unsung or otherwise......it takes a lot of guts these days to help another human being.... too many stand by and let the inevitable happen....... usually death when a gun is involved.....

Well said EC, it happens far to often in this country where people 'don't get involed' because it does not effect them. We should be ashamed of how self centered we have become as a nation.

To be honest on this story we were all making judgements with only half the story.

This was on our news in the middle of the night. Yes I am an insomniac.

The guy has horrific injuries, and he is 22 yers old. he needs another op to remove a bullet that is up against his spine.

Mc Donalds do not own the outlet it is frachised, BUT!!! lol... this is the bit we did not have. the Guy who owns this outlet has said he will pay the bills.

They also showed the guy who shot him, and he is in prison.

But this young man has a scar running the length of his torso, and after 3 operations he now needs another. He will be on medication for the rest of his life.

They asked him if he would step in again after all the problems he had and he said he felt that he would have to protect someone.

The woman was punched out by the assailant, he followed her in there and just knocked her out, it was all on camera. He was a big man, and he walked up to the woman and hit her out cold.

The bad guys here are the insurance company for Mc Donalds. They are the ones saying no. Ohhh of course the Guy who caused all this is the real Bad guy. Maybe they should make him work off the payment from his prison cell. We all think the bankers should pay for the probelms they have caused so let's apply the same rules to this thug.

Jena.

I can't help but wonder what all could have been avoided if the man had called the authorities rather than taking matters into his own hands. It seems to me the man managed to make a bad situation terrible. Corporations do not put rules about not confronting troublemakers directly and whatnot in their handbooks because they don't care or value safety over what's right, but because it is the best course of action for everyone involved in most cases. People do not always have the clearest ideas when it comes to differentiating heroic actions from needlessly dangerous actions that will cause more harm than what would have otherwise occurred. In this case it could have ended with a beaten woman . . . instead it ended in gun shots and bullet wounds, as well as a beaten woman. I feel sorry for the company for being put on the spot like this when they are doing exactly what they should be doing. It is not pleasant being vilified for doing the right thing. I also feel extremely sorry for the man. He made a poor choice that he'll be paying for for a long time, but that is by no means Mickey D's responsibility.

Well maybe the woman would have been shot instead.

The guy was carrying the gun, and a call to the authorities could have been too late. He certainly did not look like he was ready to back away from beating this woman, and it was only when he was pushed out the door that he fired the shot.

But it was over in seconds.

I think it was just one of those things that happened in an instant, the young guy saw a woman being beaten and acted to save her, then he was shot.

The place was a franchise, so Mc Donalds are not culpable, and the insurance are taking no notice, but the man who owns the place is going to help. It could have been a policeman that got shot, but this big bully was carrying a gun and someone was going to get hurt somehow.

The lady was the only customer in there that I could see but it could have been full of children.

It has all been said anyway, this youngster was doing the right thing in his mind, being the kind of young man we would all be proud of as a son, defending a woman.

Now he has a bullet up against his spine and can't afford the operation to remove it. If I had been that woman I would have called him a hero, and I bet she is grateful for his actions.

All praise to the man who owns this place and is going to help the good samaritan. I wish them both well.

Ok, what might have happened had he called authorities? Well the armed man could have come in, taken every employee and any other customer into the back, shot them all and robbed the place. This young man could have saved many lives. I wouldn't call that a poor decision. I, for one, would be proud to call him a friend or a son or a hero. Seems also that he is not the one causing the fuss about medical bills, that's the media. And Jenna did a good job reporting that the owner of the franchise is going to assist the man with his bills. I wouldn't doubt if the community already has donation boxes and things like that up. Most people are more compasionate than they appear.

Kudos to the owner of that McDonalds for his generosity in helping pay for the boys medical expenses.

Whether the boy was right or wrong at this point is a mute agrument, there are to many unknown variables. What really gets me is, if this incident would have happened here, in Sidney, someone would have been going to all the businesses in town asking for donations to auction, having a benefit dinner, the school kids would go around collecting monitary donations....the community as a whole would have pitched in to help the boy. We would not sit around debating whether his actions were right or wrong. We also would set up help for the woman involved.

What has happened to our country, to our people?
