Centrarchid raises games and game mixes in a very natural environment where they choose their social groupings, roosts, and nests for the most part. I imagine that male gamebirds are much less likely to socialize than a flock of laying hens and likely do go for long periods of time with little interaction with other birds. Game hens are also more combative than laying breeds and also probably don't stick super close to each other for the majority of the day.
So, you are both right. Game birds are likely perfectly happy alone and likely choose to be alone a good bit of the time. Laying hens in a coop and run environment where it is all hens likely tend to socialize and group together for most of the day.
