I lost half my flock today...

So sorry that this happened. It breaks my heart when I read stories such as yours.

do your chickens go in at night cause its real easy to just go lock up after dark ,this is what I do .They free range all day and i lock up at sunset and I'm careful not to open back up again in the morning till its daylight. Lots of predators hunt at dawn

We have had 2 coyoted attacks and 2 bobcat sightings between 1:30 and 3:00 in the afternoon. In mild weather, these guys hunt all day. They are hungry. They have to.

There is a woman in my neighborhood that was chasing the coyotes out of her yard with a stick and they were just running around her and still chasing her chickens like she wasn't even there.

Again, once they have had a good meal in your yard, they WILL be back.

Trap the dogs running loose too.

The coyotes get blame for more dogs attack on chicken....

I am for killing coyotes, no need for SSS thats for the dogs running loose killing chicken and etc.

Rare for coyotes to leave food laying around, maybe pups, but wrong time of year.....

This reminds me why I check on my chickens every night after dark to "tuck them in". I take them a little "midnight snack" of scratch or BOSS or mealworms - family thinks I'm crazy, but the routine of it helps me remember to doublecheck that everything is closed down and secure.

It must have been very hard for you to come upon that sight. So very sorry

We built the coop near the house where I'd have a fair shot out my bedroom window to the treeline at the back of our property and most of the area inbetween... Maybe if you hear a ruckus again, don't go outside, get the gun and pick off as many as you can before they get away.

I'm sorry for your loss.

my hubby came home today with a new rifle!! We walked the property and decided that it had to be coyotes because there NO remains of the other 6. I'm sure he's anxious to try out his new toy!! he put the dead birds at the back corner of our property by a dirt hill so if they come back for them, he's got a clear shot. I miss the sound of my boys

they were so beautiful...big black standard size cochins that when the sun shone on them they had purple and green feathers...

I swear those coyotes will regret messing with me!! btw, I called DNR last year when they were up by my house to see if I could kill them, and surprisingly they said yes. Since I'm not in city limits, and because they spread so many diseases. But even if they are dogs, if they are on our property, they will get shot!!
