I went out to the pen this morning and my Favorolle that is about 9-10 weeks old was dead in the pen. I'm a newbie to raising chickens, so I'm not sure why it died? Is it common? All the rest of them are fine. They have plenty fresh water changed daily. It wasn't a predator. (?) The only thing I've seen in the pen was a gopher tried to come up one day, but this morning thier were no signs of a gopher. (Do they kill chickens?)
No peck marks, or missing feathers.
The weather in CA is not tooo bad. It's been up to 100, a few days ago. I put ice in the water on hot days and fed them watermelon. (That was a few days ago, now were back i the 80's and 55-57 at night) She never showed signs of being sick.
I did toss grass clippings in the pen the day before, but it was just fresh grass clippings?
Well, if you have any idea's I'd love to know.
Thank you.
