I LOVE CROWS and MARTINS

I LOVE LOVE LOVE hawks and would never trade them for crows whatsoever! Crow are anoying and loud and kill baby hawks and owls and even eagles for no reason. I had a pair of hawks that nested in the wood right behind my house about 100 yards away from my chickens and they never ever touched them or even look at them. But one year they had 3 babies in their nest and a flock of crows came by and threw all the babies out of the nest. Didnt eat or anything just threw them out of the nest for no reason. 1 baby died from the fall, the other 2 babies survived and we got them back in the nest. The parents where siting their watching us do everything and I was so worried that they would either attack us or not take the babies back but they did, and they seemed to be so grateful to us. That year we watched the 2 babies grow up and fly off to find mates to make their own families. Since then they have taken care of mice, rats, snakes, and they keep down the rabbit population who eat all my flowers. I also had a pair of bald eagles that used to nest in the wood in front of the house, never touched a chickens and never bothered the hawks. But the crows killed all the babies and left them in the nest. Since them I have not seen them back. Crows steal my eggs and my baby chicks, they have tried dive bombing me (they didnt suceed since I had my gun), and they destroyed my corn field one year. But since I got my dogs they chase all the crows off. And my pair of hawks that still nest in the woods have killed several that went into my garden. Good hawks! I love them!

Wild animals generally do not do things for 'no reason'. Crows have a learned hatred for hawks and owls because hawks and owls will readily hunt and take crows. Crows are very intelligent and social animals and studies have shown that they have strong family and flock bonds. When a hawk or owl takes a crow out of a flock, all of the crows remember. Crows teach each other that mobbing raptors (hawks/owls) and that by tossing chicks out of the nests there are less crows and hawks around.
