I just had to share this incredible brooder I got on Facebook marketplace. It was made by a local retired gentleman who makes them to keep busy. I asked if he could enclose the bottom to create a second area that I could use when they get bigger and need more space, or to use as a place to keep a sick or injured hen. I couldn't be happier and the babies seem to love it, too. I have it placed in the coop and it's very well ventilated so I laid awake those first few nights worrying they would get too cold but all sixteen are just thriving and I haven't lost a single one. I have a warming plate that warms from the top and one that warms from the bottom. The one that warms from the bottom I bent some hardware cloth over it to create a kind of cave and then covered it with a thick layer of straw. I think I got the idea awhile back from someone here on BYC. In any case, I just couldn't be happier. It was worth every penny.
