I'm really learning a lot from this site. I think I'm on here everyday, reading posts, looking at pics of coops and browsing around.

I have 4 chickens, a RIR, EE, Barred Rock and a Buff Orphington. I'm learning a lot from this site and my 3 year old son loves the chickens too. We got them as chicks and they are 4 months old now.

I'm thinking of adopting a pullet, at least I hope it's a pullet, from my local animal shelter. Has anyone done this before?

You should probably quarantine the shelter bird, if you get her. You don't know what her history is, she could be harboring some disease and spread it to your flock.

I agree with drumstick diva - keep her separate for a while. It's always good to be sure!
But I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it. :]
