I love watching them hatch but GOOD GRIEF hatching stinks!

Too late then to try cleaning it...leave it be but as the others say... when your hatch is done clean with a warm not scalding hot bleach and dawn dishliquid solution and set it in the sun for the day to dry and clear up bacteria that can build up.....

Clean out both bators this way.......

Yeah, I agree. I've never known it to stink unless I just leave it for too long. And I do multiple hatches. Heck, I have a sportsman right now and have done hatch after hatch. When I had the styro baters, it just smelled like a bleach/water combo.

Now...brooding chicks or broody mamas?

That can be harsh on the nose!

Rather have a incubator hatch smell anyday to a Broody hen

I know the smell she is talking about. On my last hatch it was because some hatched on day 21 and some on day 24. The first day was just that "warm humid" scent - by day 24...

Holy Cow!

I am seriously considering moving my bator out to the garage before locking it down for hatching tonight because my husband is on a "the house smells like pets" rampage this week:rolleyes: (It's our 9 year old dog who has SEVERE allergies that smells funky)

Sorry...I just think they aren't getting cleaned well enough to begin with. I do spread out hatches quite frequently and can honestly say it's never had a bad stink....a damp chick smell yes, but not a bad smell.
