I made a big mistake :-(

Amy,
You had no way of knowing those babies were in there. Don't beat yourself up about it. Any of us could have done the same thing.

I know, I just still feel bad. I'm afraid to open the cap tonight to see if they've made it. I did call our wildlife center and they said I could bring them in, but they wanted mama to have a chance at raising them first.

About a month ago I had the same sort of problem. Not the same kind of birds tho. I'm not sure what these were. Very tiny, could have been what I think they call a tit mouse. But I'm guessing they fell from a nest in a pine tree. I went to move a large steel frame from under the tree and 2 heads popped up and tweeted loudly for food, their eyes were still closed and little feathering. I guess mom and dad heard the comotion and dive bombed me till I left the area. We had a mud nest that was already empty that my daughter found. When my husband came home we wedged the nest between 2 lower branches, picked up the 2 babies placed them in the nest and ran like h#ll, mom and dad were pretty mad again. I kept an ear out and could hear the babies every so often. The next day I went to take a quick peek and both were fine begging for food again, and I did notice later that the parents were back regularly to feed them. They found them just fine. About 1 week later they were gone. I'm sure the mother will do all she can to finish raising them, that's nature. As long as she as easy access to them. Make sure you get some sleep tonight. I know I didn't the 1st night. The second night was eaiser. Good Luck

Thanks, Gracefulspice! That makes me feel a little better. The last time I heard them was this afternoon, and I'm just hoping that they can make it. And if they do, I will be thrilled if we get more renesting there for many years to come! At least now I'll know what the sound is.
