I made DH say out loud that he wanted chicks. I recently hatched some eggs for two neighbors. Out of the 12 eggs that I started with, 8 hatched. DH kept asking, "Are you giving them all away, or are you keeping some?" I was considering keeping 2 and giving each neighbor 3, but I was trying to talk myself out of it. My coop is pretty full, and I really shouldn't risk getting another roo. DH crows at the babies every day. Despite what he says, he really does like my chickens. I kept the babies until they were a week old. When the day came for them to go to their new homes, he seemed really concerned when I said that they were all leaving. The poor guy. He didn't really want to say it, but he finally did.
DH: Are you keeping any?
Me: Nah, we have plenty.
DH: Let's keep at least one.
Me: No, the chick would be too lonely
DH: It could be done. I think you should keep at least one.
Me: No that wouldn't be fair to the chick.
DH: Well, let's keep 2.
Well, I kept two. It seemed to make him happy. I really was going to miss not having any babies left anyway. I kept a Jersey Giant and a Golden Cuckoo Marans/Creve Coeur cross (now that's gonna be an interesting cross).
