I made DH say out loud that he wanted chicks. I recently hatched some eggs for two neighbors. Out of the 12 eggs that I started with, 8 hatched. DH kept asking, "Are you giving them all away, or are you keeping some?" I was considering keeping 2 and giving each neighbor 3, but I was trying to talk myself out of it. My coop is pretty full, and I really shouldn't risk getting another roo. DH crows at the babies every day. Despite what he says, he really does like my chickens. I kept the babies until they were a week old. When the day came for them to go to their new homes, he seemed really concerned when I said that they were all leaving. The poor guy. He didn't really want to say it, but he finally did.

DH: Are you keeping any?
Me: Nah, we have plenty.
DH: Let's keep at least one.
Me: No, the chick would be too lonely
DH: It could be done. I think you should keep at least one.
Me: No that wouldn't be fair to the chick.
DH: Well, let's keep 2.

Well, I kept two. It seemed to make him happy. I really was going to miss not having any babies left anyway. I kept a Jersey Giant and a Golden Cuckoo Marans/Creve Coeur cross (now that's gonna be an interesting cross).

LMAO....

my last visit to the feed store was like...

DH: Look... ducks!
Me: We're good on ducks and they don't have bantam chicks
DH: We have room for 2 more.
Me: No we don't
DH: Yeah we do the brooder is empty in the bathroom.
Me: Well, only until Tuesday when the 5 bantams I bought come in the mail.
DH: Oh, we don't have room then. How much did those cost?!

(HA, now he cares what they cost.)

Hey.....in defense of the males that end up wanting chickens, I was one of them! I didn't want them at all, and fought the wife tooth and nail. When I finally gave in, I fell for them in, oh, about two minutes flat. Now I love them, and couldn't imagine NOT having chickens. I even went so far as to convince my wife that we needed two more younger ones after our two 'baby' Silkies died. I tracked down a local breeder, made a connection, and ended up with two tiny little downy bundles of joy to go along with our three original girls. Granted, it's going to be awhile before they are all united in the coop, but....
Yes...we that don't really want them end up wanting more. We appreciate your tolerance:)

We have chickens because of DH. He went a 26 days backpacking trip with his best friend and came declaring we need chickens. Not sure how backpacking turned into chickens.

So, we got 6 pullets. (researching what we were getting ourselves into came afterwards

).

Then, he kept declaring, "We aren't getting anymore until we get a bigger property."

Fastforward, ~1.5 yrs and he and his best friend keep pestering me about chicks and breeds (it's amazing how much you learn in a short period of time!). Come to find out they want chicks. Yep...some guys talk about sports or cars...these two talk about gardening and chickens.

So, we ordered 51...got 52, plus I got my 5 welsummers that I wanted from the feed store.

Of course, if something is wrong and they eat his garden, they are my chickens.
