There is a world of difference between GMO and selective breeding. GMO typically introduces genes from completely unrelated plants/animals. This is something that will NEVER happen naturally. NEVER.

On top of that, the genetic modification it not typically the main problem. Most GMO plants are altered so that they can grow drenched in Roundup. The result is that GMO produce typically has residual Roundup on it. That leads to all sorts of health problems.

PLUS, the GMO genetics can cross pollinate with non-GMO varieties of the same plants ... essentially 'contaminating' them. Add to that, patent laws have been structured so that these seeds are 'licensed.' Thus farmers cannot save their seeds for future use and are further dependent on corporations seeking to suck profit out of farming. (Think how this works in the world of pharmaceuticals.) And, to make matters worse, these corporations have sued farmers whos non-GMO products have been contaminated with GMO pollen for propagating patented genetics.

The main reason not to buy GMO feed was the above and the horrible things big farmers/Monsanto/Bayer and others have done with the world biggest rainforest and poisoning the people who live there.

Great comment! You added a few things about the hazards and how awful companies like Monsanta in the past/ Bayer nowadays acts with her enormous possibilities to make life for small scale farmers and organic farmers miserable.

In Europe Bayer spends huge amounts of money on campaigns / lobbyists who managed to withhold better legislation on poisons that harm insects, animals and peoples health. And destroy our ecosystem.

The poisons used in growing feed and even more in flowers cause neural damages and there is prove now : Parkinsons disease is work related. Many people in our flower industry and people who live close to flower fields suffer from it.

Just rememer about it if you buy feed with GMO corn and soy for your chickens or a bouquet of flowers (tulips, lilies) from Holland. Don’t let Bayer rule the world.

And the big companies won. GMO compounds have been found in wild populations and both GMO companies and lawmakers just shrug.

I use this as an example. We know NOTHING about genes and genetic expression.

There are inherent dangers in messing with nature. Yes, human beings have been doing it for thousands of years, often with disastrous consequences.

I won't go over all the information, I'm sure it has been thoroughly covered. But people should have the right to know what they're putting in their bodies. The legislative changes discussed in the initial post are intended only to obscure the truth and increase profits.
