Today was hatch day for my first ever silkies. This morning humidity was good, but I got home from a 10 hour day and humidity was at 24%. One chick pipped, and the membrane was white as could be. I was not going to assist but the egg was movin like crazy and the chick non stop peeping.
So I broke away some of the shell, all white membrane. The area where the chick pipped was thin but the membrane was not broken so I thought I should tare the membrane a little. I did this and immediately there was blood. I blotted it with a wet rag and put it back in the bator.
The chick is still peeping.
Will it die? Should I do anything else?
Also, in a panic to raise the humidity I got the hole paper towel the eggs are on wet. It worked but temp went down.
I'm really screwing this up.
