I might get some ducks soon.

I won't let them in the veggie garden until the plants are growing well so they can feast on slugs then.

I let mine in the garden AFTER everything is harvested and BEFORE I plant. Any other time they WILL completely destroy the plants. You can put poultry wire around the plants and let them patrol the pathways. I did this...

I won't mind losing the hosta garden as a home yard for my ducks.

Right now I'm still considering final choice of breeds. I saw some Cayuga pictures and fell in love with them.
I know they give fewer eggs, so maybe Cayuga and Welsh Harlequins, but only a total of 3, tops. I don't want overcrowding in their duck house.
