Um, not this Chickeneer.I'm not sure that the majority of the people on BYC actually "NEED" more chickens. Lol! Once you've joined it's like the official admission to addiction.![]()
RIGHT?! Well she gave up so...no harm. This time. Lolyour erstwhile broody's timing is about as bad as it could bea bit too late for the gone roo, and 3 weeks too late for all the eggs in the incubator!
I might get another roo but if I do, will be a heritage breed and a better shot at better behavior! Though, since I decided to incubate, kinda sorry I didn't find a way to keep him since clearly he was a pretty healthy spawner lolIf I remember right a mating will fertilize eggs for up to 2 weeks, to bad I'm not closer can't ship ya eggs , or I'd send ya a dozen.
If you want chicks, why not get another rooster, theres always people looking to rehome them.
I can't get mine to adopt incubator hatches since I let a broody hatch, my whole flock run in terror of baby chicks cause they've been around a broody hatching and raising chicks, so be careful what ya wish for.
Breed doesn't have much to do with behavior.will be a heritage breed and a better shot at better behavior!
Just because it's heritage doesn't make it any less likely to be aggressive. There are a lot of nice roosters a lot has to do with their upbringing along with their temperment. best to actually meet the rooster I drove an hour to look at the one in my avatar, and watched him with the hens he was with as well as how he interacted with people including me as the people were trying to re-home him due to the City moved City limits signage and made em get rid of him, he was a 3 year old that was past the teenage stage, and is still making awesome babies 3 years later, and training any young cockerel born even the ones that I hatch in the incubator, difference is I have a small back yard flock and they are used to being handled, then he finishes their education with how to act with the girls. I already have people asking if They can get on the list for when I hatch out next year cause they've heard how nice my roosters turn out, yeah they are good protectors but easy to handle too.I might get another roo but if I do, will be a heritage breed and a better shot at better behavior! Though, since I decided to incubate, kinda sorry I didn't find a way to keep him since clearly he was a pretty healthy spawner lol
