I miss my eggs

I'd be a nervous wreck...lol

Hope all is well when you get home and the chicks don't need therapy

Well, I'm finally home and there are no chicks out of the shell, yet, begging for their Daddy to please come back from the beach.

I can't see very much through the fogged up windows on the incubator so I don't know if perhaps there might be a pip or not. I opened a vent to let some of the moisture escape so hopefully I'll be able to see more once I've unpacked and checked on all of the other animals. More updates later.

I'm so glad to be back home with my eggs and future chicks.

Update: I have a pip!!!!!

It's one of Old English Bantam (OEGB) eggs, a.k.a. who's your Daddy?, chicks. I've got two of those in with the Salmon Favorelles and I just had a feeling that the bantam eggs would be the first to pip. Let the fun begin!!!!!

Well, as of about 4:30 p.m. only the one OEGB has pipped, but it's still just Day 20. I sat in front of the incubator and ate my egg salad sandwich (late lunch) and watched for more movement, noise, or evidence of pipping. The little OEGB that has pipped is chirping and bouncing its egg quite a bit. The little thing wants out, soon. I hope it starts to zip and hatches tonight. Perhaps the idea of egg salad sandwiches has the poor little thing wanting to get out before it becomes a sandwich, too.

Although the OEGB may have stolen their thunder, the Salmon Favorelles eggs are having none of that pip-a-day-early business.

Apparently they can't be cajoled by a silly, peeping, OEGB chick that doesn't know the proper hatch day.

Now, I can start with the frequent visits to the incubator routine. Good thing we have lots of cookies and sweets leftover from the holidays as quick energy for a pacing rooster like me.

It was sunny and 75 degrees around noon when I left the beach today to come home (2.5 hours drive). Here at home it's 60 degrees and raining steady. It's time to put on a pot of coffee, get under a blanket, and break out the knitting. I guess I should start knitting little sweaters for the chicks that are about to hatch.

Yes, I grew up in the southeast and have no desire to experience what real cold weather is like.

So far, just one OEGB hatched. One Salmon Favorelles egg is pipped. I am impatiently waiting on the rest to get their act together and start pipping already. I am hoping that they are all little lady chicks and they are inside those shells getting pretty for their grand entrance.
