Well, as of about 4:30 p.m. only the one OEGB has pipped, but it's still just Day 20. I sat in front of the incubator and ate my egg salad sandwich (late lunch) and watched for more movement, noise, or evidence of pipping. The little OEGB that has pipped is chirping and bouncing its egg quite a bit. The little thing wants out, soon. I hope it starts to zip and hatches tonight. Perhaps the idea of egg salad sandwiches has the poor little thing wanting to get out before it becomes a sandwich, too.
Although the OEGB may have stolen their thunder, the Salmon Favorelles eggs are having none of that pip-a-day-early business.
Apparently they can't be cajoled by a silly, peeping, OEGB chick that doesn't know the proper hatch day.
Now, I can start with the frequent visits to the incubator routine. Good thing we have lots of cookies and sweets leftover from the holidays as quick energy for a pacing rooster like me.
It was sunny and 75 degrees around noon when I left the beach today to come home (2.5 hours drive). Here at home it's 60 degrees and raining steady. It's time to put on a pot of coffee, get under a blanket, and break out the knitting. I guess I should start knitting little sweaters for the chicks that are about to hatch.
Yes, I grew up in the southeast and have no desire to experience what real cold weather is like.
