I finished the poultry run and the majority of the coop (it just needs some finishing touches, it's safe though). It's been really hot here lately, and it's going to stay hot. So I moved the babies outside. They are 3 weeks old. They are all so happy to be outside. The ducks love the freedom that they have and I love that they are out of the house!

I was a little worried about moving them out there as they are young. But no predators can get in, they have access to shade, water, food. Locked up at night etc... I did have to separate the ducklings from the chicks though as the leader duckling kept chasing off the chicks if they got too close. I didn't want anyone to get hurt. So a divider went between them.

I have read that it's not good to move your chicks much. My coop isn't done and I have been moving my babies outside from the garage to a pen outside since the weather is so nice. They are five weeks old. I take them out there in the morning then handle them again when I put them all in a box and brig them back in for the night.
They get quite upset, some of them, because they don't like the process. I figure it's part of their training to not fear me and to learn to be handled for vetting, etc.
Until my coop is done, I could leave them in the house, but feel like it's important for them to be outside to become used to being out there in the real world.
Any advice?

As long as their safe from predators and have feed/water i see no harm. I am even taking my 1wk? call ducks outside for little bits they are bored in the brooder and need to learn how to forage and be proper ducks vs in somebodies hands lol

Heck, my chickens still get carried twice a day the run is not attached to their coop so no other option, frankly this has made them lap chickens and they enjoy and expect the process.

My bigger ducks all live in the barns but the babies get out as soon as the weather is correct, ducks are routine animals(so are chickens) but how you make that is entirely up to you!

Thanks Quackers. The coop will soon be done and it won't be an issue, but I'm soon going to have OE's in the incubator, so will be going through the same process soon.
