I must be crazy - ordered 25 chicks

I live in southeast Texas and it is hot here also, so to avoid shock from cool temperature to the hot tempature once all my chicks hatch i put them outside in my greenhouse that doubles for a brooder on one side,i have a door that i open up for them to go outside in a penned area in the daytime and at night they go back in, with a heat lamp on the far end, they never sleep under it, but it's there if they need it.

I also bury frozen water bottles in the outside run to keep them cool along with a fan.

Ha! Back in march we ordered from sandhill 5 each SPW's and BLRW's and 15 BO's. Meanwhile, end of April we brought home 1 each RIR, NHR, BA, BA, WO, EE, SS, and SSH. A week later we brought home 3 BJG's. 8+3=11. Couple weeks ago I brought home 4 Silkies from the feed store and two barnevelder chicks, 1 1mo barnvelder pullet, 1 1mo golden cochin pullet and 1 1mo mfbc roo. 11+4+5=20. Plus, we received the order from Sandhill several days before that and out of the 27 they sent only five survived, so up to 25. Plus 4 BLRW that we got from a private person, making 29. 29 birds of various ages plus we are still waiting on the replacement order from Sandhill!! If they come (and no casualties) that will be a minimum of 54 birds!! And I only wanted to start out with 25!! So, I definitly know what you are going through!

haha! That sounds like me. I told my husband I was ordering the minimum 25 chicks..... but about 40 chicks arrived in the mail! I just said, "wow, they really added the packing peanut chicks this time!"

Packing peanuts!!!!! Yeah that will work right into my grand scheme! Honey I only wanted 5 but the rest are there for warmth.....of course it is 100 degrees today here in JAX according to my thermometer.

I will be out today building an outdoor brooder I think. It was 80 degrees last night. I might keep them indoors for a week or so but it is super hot out so I think they will be fine.

Lucky for me - my next door neighbor wants 4 and my coworker wants 5 and his brother wants a few too so maybe - just maybe I will get away with my silly plot to take over the world! Oi I am still in trouble....Better to ask for forgiveness than permission! I will have to ask and see who else wants some chicks. Even giving half a way is less than what it would have cost me to do the smaller order! Chicken math! Go chicken math!

Told hubby when I ordered that the minimums of all the varieties I wanted added up to 51 and that 51 pullets would keep us and all the neighbors and coworkers in eggs FOREVER.

And that we could save money by canceling the cable because we'd have all the entertainment we'd ever need.
