I nearly had a heart attack! My first predator sighting....

I had to laugh the other day,
we have a small brook running behind the house. I was out watching the birds and all of a sudden the scream , every bird including the Tom turkey ran for cover of the coop ( they are in a covered run).
I look up as I see a shadow sail over the coop.
A grey Crane LOL.
All I could do was stand there and laugh at the silliness they showed.
I am glad however it was only a Crane and not a hawk .
We do have some rather large Hawks that do occasionaly fly over.
Also very glad they are on high alert to shadows sailing over their coop.

You know, a lot of the time on here people get really mean and defensive about things to a point where you do not care to hear their opinion. I want to thank all of you for not doing that to me. I honestly just did not know the rule. Thank you for letting me know before we got into big trouble. He's really never actually shot one so far, but he does normally get the gun out. Anyways, thank you for informing me, and I had never really thought of them differently than say a racoon or coyote until you pointed it out to me. This should be used as an example of how people can be tactful and actually accomplish something. Thanks again, no more even thinking about getting the gun- except maybe to scare them off. I PROMISE!

You are welcome and it's great you understand we were only trying to inform and not berate.

We have them in Southwestern Ohio as well... I've only seen one once but they nest less than 10 miles from me.

This is how these conversations should go. So many times it seems that people are just ready to attack each other. Thanks again. Always open for suggestions and opinions. I am not easily offended, and always listen when people are reasonable.

Have you looked into any of the hawk threads? People seem to have good luck with hanging old cd's and/or stringing fishing line around the areas your chickens are usually in.
