I Need A Different Way To Ship Besides USPS!! 10/7/UPDATE

The mail carrier won't come down my driveway to deliver. I asked why at the PO and they told my driveway was too long. It is about 400 feet.

We always ask the shipper to put hold at PO and call our phone number. The phone rings just a few minutes after 7am, "hey we have your box" At first they would tell us that they weren't open yet to ring the door bell. They don't have to do that.

On the mail carrier, you have to drive thru a corn field just to get to where our property is. When we get big packages she not only drives up but puts them in the feed barn for us.

When we take pre paid and labled boxes of eggs to the main PO on Monday morning, I don't have to wait in line, I can stack them up on the end of the counter and be on my way to work.

I have no complaints with the USPS.

If the house is more than 1/2 mile from the mail box the carrier is not required to deliver it to the house and can instead leave you a notice. So set your trip meter and check to make sure that it is over 1/2 mile. If it's not call and let them know. Generally the postmaster will require the carrier to deliver the parcel even if the driveway is a little over 1/2 mile. Of course sometimes the carriers will put their foot down. My postmaster tried to get me to deliver a package down a 3/4 mile driveway that was so rutted I was scraping the underside of my car and when I got to the end there was a gate and no way to turn around. I Had to back down that infernal driveway 1/4 mile before I could turn around. Grrrr.... The customer bought a nice box that is placed a little bit down the drive and slightly to the side for parcels. We just slip a note in the box to let them know they have a package in it.

IMHO- times have changed. When I was growing up we had the best mail carrier. He was a kind man, probably in his early 60's, and his name was Butch. Our driveway is not long, but it is not paved. Back then if we recieved a package, he would bring it to our door and ring the bell. He would give my brothers and I pieces of gum if we were outside, and chat with us briefly about school, how my mother was, (he knew of her healt condition), or just anything. He was a wonderful man. Mom would give him a card every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and either home baked cookies, pies, or whatever- as well as a gift certificate to a local restaurant or diner.
Butch retired when I was in high school

Nowadays we can't even get the mailman to even wave at us.

Have you tried shipping on Tuesday instead of Mon. I know the B'ham hum is so busy on Mon. shipments get held over. They told me it would be better to ship out on Tuesday. Hope it helps.

I am sorry you are having such problems.

I just talked with my Fedex rep today and he said he could not get a definitive answer but he was thinking they didn't. They will ship rhinos to zoos and reptiles, but he couldn't get a good answer on the chickens. He is checking in to it and will get back to me.
