I need a dust free but safe coop

There's a pelleted corn cob bedding sold for horses. Might be a good option for you. Seems chickens might eat some of it but would it hurt them? I reason that it shouldn't, its just corn cobs. TSC has it.

If you try it let us know how it works out I'm very interested. I found it a good horse bedding but with the massive urine additions from the horses it didn't manage the odor well in the summer. Chickens being much drier it could be perfect.

Perhaps a mix of the corn cob bedding and sweet PDZ would rectify the odor issue?

It likely would have helped but I'm pretty in love with wood pelleted bedding in my horse stalls anyway. I was just experimenting, went back to what I had simple success with.

I did think of the corn cob bedding for chickens pretty quick though. I seem to recall it clumps like cat litter. (Don't hold me to that it was about 5years ago) But if I do recall correctly this did could be great for easy droppings removal.

Maybe I'll pick up a bag and experiment myself. I'm currently mixing sweet pdz and kiln dried sawdust on roost boards. This could be even better.

You've received really good information. But no matter what you use, there will be dust. I'm a little confused between what your allergy issues are and the title of your thread. It sounds like it's the pine, hay or straw bedding you are concerned about, but the title implies that the dust could be an issue as well. The dust in a chicken coop/run/brooder comes from other sources besides the bedding. They naturally shed cells into the air and the amount of dander from feathers can be surprising. I am just trying to clarify because if dust from other sources besides the bedding will be an issue, you may want to have some of those masks handy to wear when you're working out there. There simply is no escaping chicken dust, although choosing bedding wisely based on the advice you've been given will help.

I mix the PDZ with the pine shavings in the coop. It does wonderfully...so far. The Arm & Hammer of animal stink.

Be careful with corn cob bedding. I use it in my conure and lovebird cages. If it gets wet it will mold quickly.

They make animal bedding out of recycled cardboard. I've used it in my trailer to absorb urine as it doesn't blow around like shavings. Breaks down quickly in the compost pile.
