Would it be a waste of time to leave a trap for coons out all the time?

So far, I have caught 2 moms and 2 babies on 4 separate occasions. I have yet to catch the big daddy that I assume has been doing the killing. I've been leaving the trap out most nights.

I really think that the big guy is too smart to get caught. I've had to put weights on top of my trap because he will shake it and roll it over to get the food out without having to go inside. I'm thinking that I might have to try the PVC pipe technique to catch him.

I found they like to roll it over too to get the food--try some tents stakes to fasten it down-that works for me. Absolutely, it won't hurt to leave the traps out all the time..

Be sure and check it daily in case of catching cats we even caught a Dachound. The last boar coon trashed our trap we rebuilt it and set it again thougt we might have to buy a new one but old trusty caught a female last week.

Go to TSC buy one of those two for one traps. Adjust the pan and trigger so it closes properly. Then wire it open.... bait it with catfood. Then let the critter go in and out several times.. on the third night.. SET it. you will catch it. Then you can give it religion down at the creek.. or supplement its health with a wee shot of lead. Reset and do it over... once a animal discovers the trap.. you can train it to become trap shy. Then your outta luck.. but letting it go in and get a meal.. several times then WHAM.. makes sense?

I have no experience with raccoons, however I'd suggest blasting it with both barrels of the shotty. If you don't like killing animals, a small piece of freshly cut chicken with some poison stuffed in it should do the trick, no need for a fresh carcass to go to waste on some pest animal.

Live trap baited with cat food followed by 22 works well. So far 2 down and ???? to go. Only damage done by coons is holes under fence that have to be filled in daily. Check trap frequently and early, coons bent trap and got out several times before we staked it in place and startede checking often.

Do any of you have problems with fishers ... getting to your chickens ? Supposedely we do have fishers roaming here ... I'm rural and my fear is the Fishers will attack my dogs to get to the chickens ... ??? I just don't want the dogs hurt neither the chickens !!

I leave my 1089 havahart trap set since I got it a week ago. I have gotten 2 groundhogs,2 coons,2 squirrels, and maybe 4 or 5 possums. I usually throw weeds all over the cage to create a tunnel effect.I have put in cantelope, corn, and peanutbutter with sunflower seeds on cardboard. I have yet to check it this am.

I would suggest shooting anything you can.Especially the coons. And the possums, lol, I had no idea they can play dead for 6 hours then wake up!
