I need advice on dealing with a big fat murderous raccoon!

ellend, I don't want to argue the point, but there is a reasonable balance. I have seen more than my fair share of death. Walked among the bodies. I do not seek out and corner the raccoons and other predators, but I do protect my own. If I am careless, that is on me, but if I take reasonable measure to keep out the curious, I do not feel bad if I have to "step it up" to protect my animals.

I have far less respect for the person that throws away chicken because it "went bad in the fridge", or breeds their dog multiple times a year for the money, than I do for somebody who is protecting their property.

set you a live trap with tuna . he most likely has friends they will start coming at some point . either shoot it or move it way away where they are no chickens.

I wish you luck! My son and husband would have shot them dead, but they are so sneaky.....I will tell you this bait is the best, we got two with it, and they die almost instantly, within a foot of the container holding it.
Sorry about your chickens, it is so heartbreaking when that happens. I am still not over my three EE's that they killed last year!

Just to clear something up on my side as I took the time to read the other posts.......We protect our chickens thoroughly, they have a coop they are in at night that is secure and predator proof, they also have a secure run that they are only allowed to free range when we are out there because we have had coons and coyotes kill in the day time. That being said, the fly bait I said was only used a couple times to get the one that killed our broody hen and my son's favorite hen and roo. So if I am wrong to get the predator that took one of our own so be it!
I am an animal lover of all domesticated and wild, but do not hurt mine.
The fly bait is not the normal at our house as my husband is a hunter and prefers to use his gun first. Unfortunately he was working long hours and we had to figure the predator out, and believe me our coops and run are extremely secure as my husband is in construction. We have had no more killings on either end

and our hens and roo are locked up every night in the coop.

Can you say how you combine the two? Do you set them out side by side like milk and cookies for Santa Claus or do you mix them together and if so, how long does the mixture last before it goes bad? I never even heard of fly bait before so I have to assume my feed store has been holding out on me! Also if they mix together, how much of each product? Thanks for any answers....

Does anyone know the answer to this question? The traps ARE NOT working! We had to resort to the fly bait and coke. We must have dozens of coons. There is a lot of poop everywhere and everthing is ripped to shreds! I have tried mixing the two together and everything is slicked up twice every evening! I'm just wondering if I am doing it wrong. I made the mistake to leave the new fly bait can out in the barn and they climbed the wall and carried the full can off! This has went on long enough and they have to leave here! Any help would be appreciated.

Coons are intelligent and will figure out anyway they can to get to the chickens. They fear nothing. I have a 15 ft wired cage they ripped into. SO I will at least cull to a point to control the population. My chickens are a source of food as well as considered family. I will defend them to the end.

We use the have a heart traps. Possums go in readily, but coons seem to be smarter. They can get the bait without tripping the trigger. My husband finally caught a fish in our pond and ran fishing line through it's body to attach it to the trap. The coon couldn't leave with it, tripped the trigger, and we caught him. Dispatched him the next morning. You need to be very careful about cornering one in your pen. The are nasty animals. Good luck.

a lot of times when cage traps do not work someone has relocated coons that have already been trapped in cage traps this is why I use either body grips or coil spring traps or DP's
