I'm looking for something larger but I can't afford the huge costs for a larger coop. I'm not able to build one, I don't have the proper tools, or knowledge to build a coop on my own. Please provide a scientific study to back up your statements about supplemental lighting being the cause of ovarian cancer, and the cause of the death of the vast majority of laying hens.
Last statement, seriously??????
Agreed, coop is too small. Recommendation for BYF is for minimum of 4 s.f. in coop and 10 s.f. in run per bird.
I thought about getting another coop, but they've been together as a group for close to a year. How would I split them up into two coops?so glad you stopped in here yes if the birds are not banty they need a bigger coop but take heart the one you have could be added onto if your crafty or build one beside it
Saturday I'm picking up a large run for them, but I have to put a wire top on it. I have Hawks in my area & I refuse to let them kill my girls. I thought about feeding them some eggs, but what do you use in the pan so the eggs don't stick to it? Pam? Butter? I admit I have a lot to learn, but I'm so very thankful for having this wonderful community to come to for help. : )I think your girls might just need some time. If you are worried about vitamin D deficiency, find some vitamins with vitamin d in them or feed them a little bit of egg. If it is an option, you could allow them to free range to give them some sun.![]()
I don't have the proper tools or knowledge to build much of anything. I want them to have what they need to be happy & healthy.so glad you stopped in here yes if the birds are not banty they need a bigger coop but take heart the one you have could be added onto if your crafty or build one beside it
I keep their coop clean, I give them great food, and always make sure they have fresh, clean water and I let them play around in my garden. : )I don't have chickens myself so I won't give advice. . but I've seen other people's chickens kept in lots worse conditions than that and they have lived for years and years just fine.
Americana & fancyWhat breed do you have?
I think Pam is fine because it is a very small amount, but you can also use canola oil or olive oil.Saturday I'm picking up a large run for them, but I have to put a wire top on it.
