I need an alternative for pine shavings...any advise?

I have now tried straw for the their bedding........and I have had no itching or swelling!!! Thank you for all your help. The chicks seem to enjoy picking at the straw too. I am sooo excited. I was so fearful that I was going to have all the joy taken from me while keeping my chickens due to allergies, not any more!

I am very glad.

Allergies, of which there are many in our family, are really a pain.

And yes, I think they do enjoy hay or straw, for the fun of scratching around in it.

I use aspen without any problems. Try that. And see if you're allergic to chickens, ok?
