I need answers ASAP. Tyson has a huge chicken barn across the street from me, they told me to get r

The old owners are very nice people, we bought the house almost 2 years ago, but they noticed the chickens yesterday ( my roo was talking and they heard him) I have only had the chickens 6 months, enough time to fall in love:(
Does anyone know where I can get the laws of Tyson for their farmers?

You can get Tyson's poultry raising regulation's from Tyson.

But since YOU are not raising chickens for Tyson none of this should be your problem.

I told the old owners to give me a few days to get the chickens moved I was going to move them the so called required 1/2 mile away from them, but I can't do that, they will need water, plus come winter the will need heat, plus I know the wild animals will kill them...what a dang mess! I don't want them to lose their business , but I own this place and I don't want to lose my chickens,. Do you know if there is a number I can call to ask if they have this type of rule?
I really don't want to make any enemies here...

I guess you would have to find (Google) the corporate number for Tyson and go from there.

Honestly, if it were me, I would be letting these people who are trying to tell you what to do on your own property do the leg work on this. They may be nice, maybe they are just good manipulator's, I don't know. But I would not be moving my chickens, on my own property, to the south 40 to please someone else without an act of Congress quite frankly!

If someone in authority shows up and deliver's you written documentation showing laws that state that you are not allowed to keep chickens on your property or within a certain distance of the neighbors THEN you might have to move your chickens.

Edited to add: I know you don't want to make enemies and I applaud you for making such an effort to be a good neighbor, BUT sometimes you may make an enemy in the process of standing up for your own rights. It's not worth it to allow yourself and your rights as a property owner to be trampled on in the name of being a good neighbor.

Personally, I would be more worried about their chickens passing on some drug resistant disease to my chickens if I were in your place. And tysons rules including a half mile chicken free area seems stupid since birds are flying wild everywhere....

I hope you can work this out because those rules seem unfair to both you and the poultry farm owners, but if it was a concern, they certainly should have put that in as a stipulation of the sale.

Good luck....

I bought my home in sept 2010
I was never told I could not have chickens, this home was part of a very large farm forty acres behind my house, 40 acres across the street, where the chicken barns are.
The land that came with the house was used to raise cattle, the gentleman got sick and could no longer farm it. When we bought the place they knew I would be bringing my horse farm with me
I have 21 horses, 6 dogs, 3 rescue cats, I went as far as talking to the old owners about raising cattle here, nothing was ever said about no chickens.
Perhaps they are worried about losing money if my chickens get sick idk but what I do know is this, it would really ruin my day if I caused someone to lose there family income. They are so worried that they offered to pay me for all the money I had invested into my chicks
I am so dang stumped, I have no clue what to do!

When I worked at a broiler hatchery one of the growers had a backyard flock.. THEY were told they could not have them because of biosecurity reasons... and THEY had signed a contract with the company.. they were also regulated on how many animals they could have (1 dog.. no poultry.. and so on)

Unless you are a Tyson contract grower and have signed papers with them.. then honestly I don't see how they can enforce their rules on you..

if you decide to contact Tyson just ask them for a copy of their contract and do not tell them why.. if they press the issue just say you are thinking about becoming a grower and want to look over a contract first to see if it really appeals to you..

if you keep your birds contained on your property then it shouldn't be an issue.. I know they are concerned about biosecurity.. but they should worry more about wild birds than your little backyard flock

I would not worry about it, those companies put tons of antibodies in their.chickens I find it hard to believe they would get sick. Leave your birds there. If Tyson doesn't agree then I guess they can move their farm. We can't make everyone happy, so at least you can be happy. Besides that they should have said something two years ago. Their problem not yours.

It seems to me that if there is a distance separation requirement for them to raise Tyson chickens then they should have set their dark pens at a distance from their property line not somewhere within your backyard.
