I need bunny help UPDATE - HE PASSED AWAY

Feed it twice a day, and try to leave it alone for the most part. It will stress, they are wild and do not tame down even with hand rearing. If it lives (I raised a few years ago) release it in a few weeks. If the cat broke the skin anywhere it will probably die as cat saliva has toxin in it that kills small rodents and birds, and makes people sick.

so far the little one is doing well - doing alot of resting and every once in awhile will move to another spot in his little nest lol

so darn cute !!

baby is drinking the formula fine which is great - I dont have to fight with him/her


I was planning on keeping the little bugger - but I will wait and see how that goes - if anything I will send him to the zoo where they might be able to set up a large area for him to live - I really dont want to release him around here where there are so many stray dogs/cats

the cat that carried him away from his family did not break the skin anywhere - which was the first thing I looked for when he/she was brought in the store.

I am glad he is doing well but I caution you on keeping him. He will probably die from being in captivity. Wild cottontails and famous for being the most difficult baby animal to rehab and they never get used to people.

If I were you I would continue to do what you're doing and then drive far out and release him somewhere in the country. Going to a Zoo would stress him out even worse, it's a bad idea.

I knew there was a high chance the little one would not make it - but when someone hands you a baby that needs help it is a pretty sure bet that you are going to try anyway

I hate telling DH the little one passed he can be as bad as a kid sometimes when it comes to animals - he had already started to think of names for the baby

it is a cottontail, we have tons of them on our farm, blue our blinde aussie shep would bring me baby bunnies every once in a while, blue would get scolded and the bunny would get left alone....you have to remember that if and when a mother rabbit feels safe enough she will come and get the baby.....baby bunnies are tough from day one that if there is trouble to lay low....they will also let out a little swqeek to let momma know where they are..
