I began by naming them after presidents' daughters, but when Jenna Bush had to be changed to Jeb Bush, and Sasha and Mileah also started crowing, I had to change strategies, so I named others by their appearance to tell them apart: Spot, Buzzard, and Skunk. With all the great names people are sending in, you'll need to have a larger flock! Good luck!

We only have two RIR and it took us a while to come up with names. One is Penny, because she's the color of a penny (a common chicken name, I'm sure) and the other is named Janet. She's also the color of a penny, but we give most of our pets "human" names. Our cat is Catherine, and our dogs are Bert, Oliver and Jade (Jade was her rescue name and we kept it). We also like Janet because we were All My Children fans back in the day, and Janet from Another Planet was a hoot. We also like saying "dammit Janet." It helps to be a little dorky when naming your animals!

We were thinking of using the greek & roman goddess names for our chicks - we're getting two each of five breeds, so we thought we'd go with things like Diana/Artemis, Minerva/Athena, etc. Also, my kids picked Millie & Lily, and I was thinking to name them all "illy" names with different first letters, like the ducks . . .

As for the tv shows: Mary Tyler Moore, I Love Lucy, Laverne & Shirley (originally Happy Days), Mork & Mindy, Three's Company, the Jeffersons, and I kind of think Wilona was the neighbor on Good Times, maybe?

Hi There
I try to include "chick" or "hen" or use foreign words for chicken in my names - lucky I have a small flock cause l will run out eventually!

Chickadee
Chickolatte - She is a Barnvelder and lays "chocolate coloured " eggs
Chickorita
Chickolette
Tiddlechick
Torchick - a pokemon character
Chick Pea
Dabchick
Chickory - a coffee substitute used during war time
Kokido - Esperanto for chicken
Kylling - Norwegian for chicken
Kuku - swahili for chicken
Oilasko - Basque for chicken
Hoender - Afrikaans for chicken
Manok- Fijian for chicken

Have fun with your new friends :)

I have 49 and try to put names with the breed for example I have New Hampshire Red, Black Satin, Red Star, Ms Betty. I built what we refer to as the "condo " for the henhouse and the yard is their courtyard. Some will just naturally brings names to your head by what they do. We refer to the address here now as The Girls of 307 French Street. People are amused to say the least. Name them after family members, that tends to raise eyebrows.

We also considered names that had "Jo" as a middle name, like all the girls from Petty Coat Junction (I'm aging myself). For example, Betty Jo, Bobby Jo, Mary Jo...
