I need help and a second/third opinion... GOAT people!!

I think it sounds like she was just stringing you along, so you didn't get mad and sue her for the broken ankle. She just made it increasingly more difficult until you finally gave up on her. If a goat breeder isn't going to be honest up front, I would hesitate for fear that she or he wasn't honest about any disease testing too.

Breed the goat this fall unless there is a reason you don't want to. The normal breeding season for Swiss breeds, of which Saanens are one, is from about August through February. Even if a goat is small when bred, she will grow to normal size if well fed. I had a doeling kid at eight or nine months once. No it was not on purpose. The doeling's name was Yolletta. I named the baby Yolletta's Surprise. Yolletta was not the only one that was surprised!! Both Yolletta and Surprise grew to be very big goats and good milkers and both died at a ripe old age.

If you contact the American Dairy Goat Association, they will send you information on dairy goats. Also the catalog for Caprine Supply www.caprinesupply.com is full of useful information.

I didn't read the whole thread, but just the few posts. Just breed the doe this fall. Doelings born in the spring can be bred that fall. Use a smaller billy like a nigi if possible. You bought the goat to milk, yes? Then breed the doe. A pregnant uterus is a healthy uterus. And in goats, the best milk producers are bred annually. Adjust the billy if you feel the doe is small, but do breed her. It is just the nature of goats to breed annually (in the wild), and following nature is always the best.

As far as the previous owner, I would ignore her. She doesn't sound too impressive to me, and if you get that same vibe then choose to ignore her.
