Hi I have just moved to Campbell River BC From the Fraser Valley and as it turns out you are not allowd to keep chickens within the city limits. I am so suprised as this is a small town in a remote place. I have talked to the by-law office and he said all I can do it write a letter to the mayor asking for the by-law to be changed. But Im looking for info from other cities who have changed there by-laws. I need to make a point that having three hens is benifical not only to me but to my community. If anyone could help me out I would be very thankful.

Check out CLUCK in Calgary and other Canadian cites. They argue bylaws are unconstitutional based on the Charter of Human Rights and the right to food. Paul Hughes goes back to court in mid September. If he wins, all municipal laws opposing chickens, goats, rabbits and gardens could be brought into question.

Hey Tricia... there are areas (Petersen road by Evergreen) that you can have some chickens... sadly not where I live either. I would like to help out getting the bylaws changed too!
