I have 6 5or6 week old RIR's and a 5or6 week old turkey. They all get along great but I tried to introduce them to my flock of 11 RIR's and 5 Americanas and it was a disaster! My bigger ones were pecking at my little ones and it made me feel horrible!
Is there anything that I can do to help my little girlies out? I have a half coop half run outside just behind my house and I can get to them quickly enough when I hear them squeek to badly. It breaks my heart to see them get hurt but they are getting to big to stay inside anymore.
I left them out at night with my hens once and I went to check on them at around 9:30ish to make sure they weren't shoved off in a corner to freeze (even though our nights are a little warm) and they were all snuggled up with eachother. Is that weird?

Any help would be great! Thanks everybody!

I have some 5 week olds that needed to be introduced to my 12 week olds. We created a partition out of left over hardware cloth and 1X2s that hangs from hooks under our hen house. This keeps the portion of our run that is under the hen house separate from the rest of the run. They have their own water and food in there. The gaps between the walls of the run and the partition are big enough for the little chicks to get out into the run when they feel adventurous, but not big enough for the big ones to get in. It's been a great way for them to get used to each other so far. At night they are all sleeping in the hen house together (big ones on the roosts, little ones on the floor) and the big girls don't peck or chase the little ones when they're all in there. It's almost like the hen house is some kind of safe zone. We've had this set up for about 10 days now and the little chicks are getting more and more bold about going out into the run with the big girls. Sometimes they get chased back into their area, but often they are ignored. It really seems to help to have them see each other without having unwanted contact.

I fixed up a cage with some wire where my younger birds could escape from my older ones. They figured it out pretty quick that they could go into the cage and the older birds couldn't. The younger ones would come out but when the older birds went after them they escaped into their cage. I did put food and water in the cage. Slowly the younger birds came out more and the older birds didn't chase and pick on them as much. Now they are all living in harmony.

I have a big box I made out of wood in there. Origanally I made it for my older ones for when they were younger to sleep in but now I close the door and my babies can get in through a space in the back of it. It doesn't seem to help much though because I can't just stick my turkey in there because he can't get out. And I'm worried that they might over heat. Plus there is one of my little ones that is just a little on the chubby side and can't (or maybe just wont) go in the box. I don't know, she seems to really just be the loner type besides with the turkey.
