i need help keeping my chickens healthy!

Keep in mind that "culling" does not necessarily mean "killing". If you get rid of an undesirable hen via craigslist, then you have just culled her from your flock.

Yep. And for those who don't like the thought of an animal we have raised from birth, nurtured and watched grow, provided for with a happy and stress free life, CL or any home other than our own is not an option. I like to insure my animals are cared for in the manner I most like even unto their death and I don't like the thought that all my efforts have been in vain. We consume our culled chickens to nourish our bodies and insure they have a humane life and death.

I couldn't bear the thought of one of my own being collected by some animal hoarder who would cage them, not feed them properly, not care for their lives and happiness as I have done.

I have made the mistake of letting one of my older, friendly but no longer producing hens go to someone who just wanted a "pet" only to hear that they didn't provide for their protection and she became a victim of predation, the road or illness and died a lingering death. No more well meaning and supposedly soft hearted people will receive one of my cherished hens again....only those who understand the real meaning of compassion and care.
