I need help, please help me figure this out.

Those are some neat looking birds. Almost like a speckled sussex crossed with an easter egger. What breed are they? Amerucana? or however you spell it..

Those are Russian Orloffs. They are not SOP, though. They should have yellow legs and some of their patterns are not perfect, but I don't care. I do not intend on showing. They are some of the hardiest birds I have ever had.

I agree with you. My grandfather was 1/2 Native American and he loved raising chickens from youth to adult. I didn't even know he liked chickens until I had them. But I told him about SOP chickens and he gave me this peculiar look and said, "I bet our chickens **** the same color." A bit crass, especially for him, he was a very proper guy. I have no bad feelings towards people who go for SOP but your comment just reminded me of my granddad.

I agree. I also do not blame breeders for SOP. If I can get the chance I would gladly build a special pen and breed some orloffs for SOP, but that is just because the breed is so endangered, and there are very few breeders breeding for SOP in the birds. More breeders are needed to increase the gene pool, and at the moment SOP is not so over imposed on the breed that it is striving for unhealthy traits.
My mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great aunt, and other family members have been experienced breeders in different animals, mostly dogs. They all have the same Opinion, and as I have fallen in love with old line Arabians, I have come to the same conclusion. The more a breed is bread for arbitrary show standards, the worst the animal becomes. Look at the poor english bull dog, the persian cat, the race horses, american line german shepherds, and the yorkie. Those poor animals are so over bred to meet ridiculous looks, that most of them can not do what they were originally bred to do, and many, like the english bulldog, have to be assisted in breeding.

When i do decide to get a purebred anything, I don't look for show lines. I look for working lines. If t is a show animal, it has to have parantage or a history of, being shown in utility as well to prove tempermant and an ability to do what it is bread to do. But then I just got off on a tangent.

Thanks Cupman. I just got home. He is home with me. Apparently his digestive track is inflamed and he has some sort of intestinal infection... probably from eating something... again

I'm going to tape this dog's mouth shut. This randomly eating inedible stuff is getting old. Seriously. twice in one week. he is now officially the most expensive dog I have ever had, and the second most expensive animal I have ever had. He is beat out only by my 21 year old Arabian mare.

Also, good news, I lost far fewer than I thought. It seems a good number of my birds fled into the trees when what ever attacked.. attacked. Oh and a fried was here today and took a couple pictures. One of my bear, showing how much better he feels, and some of my surviving birds

Kristy, Bear is a beautiful dog! I hope he's still doing well. I love the look the chickie on the right has. It's like she's saying "Uh-huh! That's right! I'm struttin', I'm walking, I'm beautiful, I'm the most important thing on this land." They are gorgeous chickies!!
