Hello so its day 19 of incubation!!! And I'm soo excited because this is my first time ever incubating, so with that being said I have a lot of questions! First question is its day 19 and I haven't heard any chirping or seen my eggs moving , what's going on?? Second question is I don't have any cheese cloth to use is there anything I can us as a substitute?? Third I have a thin crack in my egg yesterday I put tape over it, will it still hatch? Will the baby be able to pip with the tape on it?? So if someone can help please do because I'm very anxious and worried!

Good luck. sorry couldn't help.

Open the incubator and tap gently on the eggs. I'm the wild hens will peck on their eggs to tell the chicks to come out. I did this with my chicks. They were late and I would sit and watch my hens do this with their eggs so I thought I would give it a try and it worked. They hatched late that evening. You could start tapping now. I did on day 19 and they hatched the 22nd day.

I just hatched out my first incubator eggs myself. I will tell you what I found from all the reading I did. If there is movement in the egg that is cracked I would still try to hatch it. If no movement bacteria can kill the others because of the temp and humidity needed in an incubator. Yes the chick can still pip with the tape on it if the egg is not covered in tape that is.
Generally you don't want the chicks to pip until the day of hatching or the day before or when they are ready to hatch because they can suffocate or die before they make it out that early.
Also if your humidity drops a lot during lockdown from opening up the incubator a lot or having the power go out (What hapened to me :(...), the membrane can turn to leather, "shrinkwrap" and suffocate them or make it impossible for them to pip all the way through because they cant puncture the membrane.
All that being said, if you open the incubator during lockdown to assist in any way place a wet papertowel in there so that you don't kill your humidity Lowest recommended humidity levels I have read for last 3 days in lockdown is 65%, highest recommended was 80%. And try to not open it, the chicks that hatch can stay in there for up to 72 hours after hatching and they really need to dry before you pull them out cuz if they aren't dry pulling them out of that environment weakens their strength. The heat, humidity and yolk they consumed in order to hatch is what they need most those first 72 hours.
What is your temp and humidity at? Hope it all turns out well for you!!! :)

thank-you!!! I will be sure to do this it sounds like a good idea :)

My temp is at 101° and can I use a damp towel in there to keep the humidity up??

I don't see why not. I never buy papertowels but actually bought some just for the incubator only because they take up less space and I wanted to throw them away after.
