Hello so its day 19 of incubation!!! And I'm soo excited because this is my first time ever incubating, so with that being said I have a lot of questions! First question is its day 19 and I haven't heard any chirping or seen my eggs moving , what's going on?? Second question is I don't have any cheese cloth to use is there anything I can us as a substitute?? Third I have a thin crack in my egg yesterday I put tape over it, will it still hatch? Will the baby be able to pip with the tape on it?? So if someone can help please do because I'm very anxious and worried!

First- as hard as it is- don't worry. Worry is interest paid today on tomorrow's problems that may not come. ;)

Second- I have not noticed chirping until right before hatch. And some chicks even hatch late- so this isn't a cause for concern in my opinion.

Third- We have hatched several chicks and never used cheese cloth. What are you planning to use it for? What kind of set up do you have?

In regards to the cracked egg, I have never hatched one but have seen posts on here where people did. I can't offer any advice in that regard.

Good luck with your hatch! The first time is always exciting and nerve wracking! Who am I kidding, every hatch I have done has been exciting and nerve wracking! Lol!

Let us know how it goes!

thankyou so much for letting me know that its okay that there not chirping

I was reading up on hatching and I found that your supposed yo use cheesecloth under the eggs so they have a better grip when they come out?? Is that true or no??

And I really hope they hatch thank-you for replying!! Its my first time on this website and I didnt know if my posts were being sent haha! P.s How did you get those smile faces??

It depends on whether you are using the mobile or desktop byc. There should be an emoticon bar if you are on the desktop version. :).
I have never heard of using cheesecloth before. What kind of incubator are you using? I would guess you would be fine without the cheesecloth unless it has a very slick bottom. The ones I have used and seen have all had plastic or metal grate-type bottoms and the chicks have done fine! Good luck! I hope you have a good experience- chickens can be a lot of fun!!

in response to the cracked eggs there are ways you can fix that. I have read recently that people have use nail polish over the cracks in the chicks pipped easily.I would honestly say if it were me I would candle the eggs after about the second week just to make sure they are developing. Otherwise yes the cheesecloth helps them from slipping around. I've never used it myself but I'm sure it's a good idea.
