I need help with a rescued chicken!!

Today at work I found a chicken stuck in the pool fencing, it was being attacked by an angry magpie. I got it free and brought it home. So far I have managed to accommodate it in an old dog kennel and run, rigged up a temporary branch in the covered area, put newspaper on the bottom of that and given it some cooked carrot, peas,corn and some bread. It has a bit of a wound on its head which I bathed in salty water. So far it seems quite happy. But . . . .I have no idea what sex it is, all I know is that its a Rhode Island Red, I think it might be fairly young, it has a bit of a comb and still has yellow legs. Would someone be able to advise me on how to tell the sex and if what I have given it to eat will be enough (will give it more of the same tomorrow morning) until I can get to the shops to buy some sort of proper chicken food tomorrow afternoon? Thanks in advance for any advice on this and also on what else I need to do if anything.

Can you post a picture? That would be the easiest way otherwise I would say to look for pointy feathers (called saddle feathers) around the base of it's tail. The pointy feathers are a sign of a rooster. Also, what color is the comb?

Can't post a picture at the moment because its getting dark and its in the back bit of the kennel, the comb is only about 1/4" high and is a sort of reddish colour. I guess I might know in the morning though, if it wakes me up with rooster noises? Will the food I gave it be ok? Sorry if I sound a bit stupid, but I have never had anything to do with chickens before, I just couldn't leave it there though.

Scrambled egg and plain yogurt are good for chickens when you are trying to get them to heal (or if you don't have anything else in the house, lol).

Eggs are food for chicks= good food for chickens too. It would help to post a picture of it to tell if it is a roo.
Oh and the food you gave it was fine! Eggs would be a good protein source to add if you have some in the house.
