Today at work I found a chicken stuck in the pool fencing, it was being attacked by an angry magpie. I got it free and brought it home. So far I have managed to accommodate it in an old dog kennel and run, rigged up a temporary branch in the covered area, put newspaper on the bottom of that and given it some cooked carrot, peas, corn and some bread. It has a bit of a wound on its head which I bathed in salty water. So far it seems quite happy. But . . . .I have no idea what sex it is, all I know is that its a Rhode Island Red, I think it might be fairly young, it has a bit of a comb and still has yellow legs. Would someone be able to advise me on how to tell the sex and if what I have given it to eat will be enough (will give it more of the same tomorrow morning) until I can get to the shops to buy some sort of proper chicken food tomorrow afternoon? Thanks in advance for any advice on this and also on what else I need to do if anything.
