I Need Help with an Overly Amorous Rooster

Watch your drakes too.....they may try to mount your pullets, they have different equipment and can physically injure the pullets internally.
Not sure of when drakes mature or how they act, but read up on it.....not a common occurrence, but a possibility that you should be aware of.

ETA for correction: I have just been informed by a vet that the drakes penis will not harm the hen internally(it's smaller than an egg) but they are rough when mating.

I have seen some pretty ugly/bloody/gory photos from people who claimed that the damage was done by a drake attempting to mate with a chicken so I think that your first response may have been correct. I believe that you were right to recommend doing more research about that issue.

Being raised together often times makes for a worse rooster, IMO. Simply because the rooster gets bigger faster, sexually matures faster, and often times becomes a bully.

A great rooster is a joy to have in the flock. A rotten one is at best a pain, and at worst a physical threat. Beware - especially if you have small children or children visit. Inexperienced people often times vastly underestimate the violence of a rooster, and often times do not pick up on the signs he is becoming aggressive.
