I just got a used LG still air. I had it running for 3 days at 99*. Then decided to put in a fan that I had. Temps went crazy clear up to 120. Turned fan off but now I still can't get it to stablize. I watch for the tmep to get to 99 then move the handle VERY gently till the light goes out. Then is will drop clear down to the 80's before it comes on. If I try to get it to come on higher then it gets too hot. I am so frustrated I am about to throw this thing out but I have eggs to hatch and more on the way.
Thanks in advance for your help Rob.

Put 3 water bottles in it. It needs mass to stabilize, right now it's all air.

Plug it in and turn up the thermostat. With a good thermometer at egg level, 2 inches above the wire, watch until it comes to 100 to 101 then slowly turn the thermostat back until the red light turns off. Now just watch it.

LG's are good bators but require more knowledge and patience than most other bators, this is why so many people don't like them.

Keep the fan ON, assuming it's an LG fan, not something someone slapped in it.

OK will give it a try. The fan is not an LG it is one I had but I had some one who has several LG's look at the fan and he said it is just like the factory LG
Thank you so much for your help.

I think I figured it out !! Today on our way through town with our new free coop we decided to stop by the farm store. They didn't have much help to offer. They did have a new wafer so I decided to risk the $11. Well while changing it my wafer fell apart. And did ya know a new one has liquid in it? I am guessing maybe a glycol or glicerin. I have the bator heating now and it seems to cycle at about 1 degree. Hopefully I will be able to set eggs tomorrow.

So the lesson I have learned is that if you have wide temp changes check the wafer.

I am not sure but since this store sells LG and it looks just like mine I think it is LG. I have it running now and with my added fan it is on at 99.3 and off at 99.5. Is that close enough to hatch with??

That's far better than my LG is doing so far. I think mine has the electronic thermostat and I am getting fluctuations from 98 to 101.

I searched online and the only replacement thermostat I can find was the same as what I think I already have and it lists for $31.

I sure would be interested in one like you found if I could get one. $11 is dirt cheap and it sounds like it is very accurate.

Im using a LG from TSC. It's been running for almost 2 weeks now. Yippee!!!! Getting close. I was a lil concerned at first. I had read good and bad stuff about the LG's. So far mine has been perfect! It only took 3 adjustmants to set it at 99.5 - 100. I used 3 regular thermometers and a electronic wireless thermo/hygrometer from Lowes. $25. I carry it all aver the house. My DW thinks im nuts! lol I have a staggerd hatch in now. one goes into lock down the 9 of FEB. Then FEB 11, and finally FEB 16. PLus I have 2 more shipments comming this week. I also ordered a gamehatcher/incubator. Pick it up today. But the LG stays steady at 51% humidity with plugs in. It Stays really constant on temp. I a really impressed with my LG. Especially after all the bad stuff I read. I was so worried. But all Is well!

P.S. I am doing the still air. So I actually am running the temp at 100-102. I was advised to do this because of the temp difference from the top and bottom of the egg with out air circulation.

Thanks, Good Luck and GOD Bless!
