I need help with my muddy run...

You can get extensions for the end of your gutter that are flexible--most of the ones I have seen are green plastic. Better yet dig a trench and add on drain pipe--you can use that flexible corrugated black pipe for that. Get that water diverted out of your run to begin with! Like Tad I am a big fan of a thick layer of wood chip. It is free in most cases and easy to move around. If you don't like it, no big deal, change it out in the summer for sand and compost it.

Go to HD or what is by you and buy how ever long a gutter spout you need to extend it past your run.

Applying sand and gravel or any material no matter if it's dry at the time applied or not is only a temporary fix.

If you don't like the look of the gutter then cover it with what ever material works for you.

Unless you live in a climate where you only get rain 20 times a year you will only be fighting yourself.

Gutter spouts are cheap, stress isn't!

I sure wouldn't do it. There are definitely Bad Things in rubber that can leach out even under non-stomach conditions, and I know you're universally advised not to let horses eat hay off rubber footing in riding rings (tho I don't know how much of that is a toxicity issue and how much is an impaction/colic issue, the latter being presumably less of a problem for chickens with gizzards).

i would buy a drain pipe and devert the water elsewhere!!!! and i put straw down and i also put the pine needles and leaves i rake up down too!!!! I have done this for years so i know it works!!!

I would also attach the plastic run deverter to the bottom of your gutter. They are like an accordian that you direct away from the problem area. Can be scrunnced in when not raining. Home depot or lowes has them all the time
