Because it was in the Day old-8 week section and my rooster is now about 10 weeks old.

I opened a new classified for him in the 8 weeks and older catogory here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/662472/young-barnyard-mix-rooster

Is this the right thing to do, or does this count as making duplicate listings?

I want to follow the rules.

It seems like you did everything perfectly to me! You closed the old listing and created one when the bird had moved into a new category of age.
