Stage of develpoment, as far as what week I can't give you info on that, but if you can find out what week or close you might be able to figure out if humidity or temp may have been to blame. You know for sure they were all fertile? Others say it can help when you do another hatch.

Yes, they were all fully formed and moving when I last candled on Sunday night/Monday morning-ish. (With the exception of one questionable egg.) But none of the others made it as far as even breaking the air sac.

Since i have no experience with incubators I just have no info, but it does sound like they quit for one reason or other. What day did you say this is? what do mallards take 22 days or 28, I have Muscovies and am not too familar with when other breeds hatch.

I've read 23 to 28 days. I went with 28. Today is actually day 28 for them. I think is was Metzer's or Holderreads website, one of those reputable people anyway, said 25 and a half.

Maybe duckyfromz will weigh in in a while about whether you should start to crack the eggs, what about the one that was starting to get lively any news from it? the one still in the egg that is.

It's still just pecking about once a minute so I know it's alive.. for now. I'm literally sitting here brainstorming on what to do and second guessing my "inner duck".

What is your inner duck telling you to do?

Help it. Which is what I just did. I made it a hole without tearing the membrane, wet it down, and put it back. I'm going to let it warm back up and see what happens. It's going to die either way, so whatevs.

ETA: Man, that sounded negative! I must find some optimism! I am thrilled I have at least one little bitty fluffy ducky butt!

I bet your getting some good cuddle time in since the lil one has hatched. I would sit and hold mine wrapped in a soft towel and he would sleep or nibble at my face, I miss him being so little. Let us know what happens and we are pulling for it.

He will get some good cuddle time tonight when he's a little more rested. I wanted to leave him alone because A. He's sleeping a lot and I wouldn't want to handle him and cuz him stress, and B. If I pick him up my girls will think THEY get a turn!! LOL!

Good idea Mom!

Your little duck is precious! I've only hatched duck eggs once (this summer) as their mother didn't survive an attack. She had been sitting on the nest for quite some time so I scooped up the 11 eggs and got them in my incubator right away. One duckling hatched 2 DAYS before the others started and it was quite the lengthy process. I successfully hatched 9 of the 11 eggs. My recommendation is to give it several days after the due date before you start cracking them open. Lots of things can cause a delay (wrong temp, temps dropping, humidity, etc.) so I think it's better to give them the benefit of a doubt and give them several extra days before you start cracking. Oh, one other thing I'd recommend is for you to try the sniff test. Take each egg and sniff it, if it's rotting your nose will tell you! You can't miss the smell if one is rotting and it's much better to get those out of the incubator and not risk having them explode. Good luck & enjoy the baby duckling!
