You may remember my roosters got into a fight.

And since we have a foot of snow on the ground, I can't get out there to modify my coop to keep my boys separate.

So now, Ozzy is a house rooster, at least for the next week -- or 2.

He seems happy as can be to be on top of the fridge where he is taller than everyone and can see out the kitchen window.

The issue is: poop.

Lord almighty, I had no idea how much one chicken can poop. And it smells *so* bad.

How do you house chicken people deal with the poop.

PS. I tried a sock diaper. It works... Sometimes.

When I keep chickens in the house, I keep them in the basement. Usually in a large cardboard box or a 40-gallon rubbermaid tote with a grate over the top. As soon as they're sufficiently healed, out go they.

In your case, I recommend a dog crate with PDZ at the bottom.

I use the pdz for my tortoise pee in the winter shed. Works really well.
Look for Sweet PDZ at feed supply stores in the horse section.

It’s wood pellets. You can get a generic at TSC.
Sweet PDZ is an all-natural, non-hazardous and non-toxic mineral. It captures, neutralizes and eliminates harmful levels of ammonia and odors.Sweet PDZ is a far superior alternative to lime products for ammonia removal and moisture absorption
Not a wood pellet.

I have an old Pack n play that I use. I wrap the mattress with a shower curtain to keep it clean, then use old towels that are changed often.
I use the kennel if I don’t have to nurse much. You can use feed bags around the sides to keep bedding in. If you use a kennel, you can always do the kennel part of the day, and the diaper during “play time.”
