I need to know everything about showing chickens, from how to prep them months in advance (feeding/show care/handling-etc) to what kind of cages for trining/showing to what shows to go to and how to show them. Anything and everything will be appreciated, including articles and websites. You can email stuff to me, as well, and I will appreciate it all.

Check out your local Extension office. 4-H will have a lot of information.

you can also check out the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association.

OUr 4-H isn't much help- I tried to show chickens back when I was in it, and nobody knew anything. I have recently tried to get info from them, and still nobody knows.

Does the American Poultry Assc have a website?

Just google it, they have a website.

We have a book from Storey Publishing called, Your Chickens: A guide to Raising and Showing Chickens. We picked it up at TSC.

I went to the American Poultry website, and not much info- maybe I'm not looing in the right spot.

What age of chicken is best to show?

The specific breeds I'm going to show are Silver-Laced Wyandottes and Game chickens (not Old English Game). When I was looking into it years ago, the only class to show Games in was mixed breed or "other".. Any thought on that? Also, Games had to be dubbed to show.. do they still?

Most breeds show best when they are at least seven months or older.

If you have American Game birds, some shows have a specific category for them, some do not. When entering the show, be sure to put on your entry form that these are large fowl AG birds, not OEGs, and let the show secretary put them in the right place.

Thanks Pathfinder!!!
