I need info on Turkeys!

We may be incubating some turkey eggs soon. And I don't want to be

rushing to learn about them AFTER we get them, so I'm starting my 'research'

now

Are they hard to care for? Do you have to house them in a fence? Or can they

roam your yard? Any thing I should know please post. Thanks.

I have a tom that free ranges in our fenced yard with the chickens. I got him at the same time as my chicks so that may be why he hangs around with no problem. He sleeps in the coop with my chickens and geese. I've heard a lot of people say that their's would not stay in the yard though. Some people clip their wings, too.

I also got my turkeys as chicks the same time I got my chickens. Later added some geese and they all sleep in the coop together. The geese have become the leaders in wondering around the yard. Some times I have to chase them down off the top of the shed, or some other place, but mostly they have learned that they sleep in the coop. now, where in the coop they sleep is another thing. Each seems to pick their own place. They just need a little more room, but treating them like chickens should be ok.
