@Duck_life I am so happy that you rescued those ducks. I too have rescued some of my flock members from the Amish and they were in terrible condition as well. All they said was her friend gave them to her because she didn't want them, got them from tractor supply this year.
Not any better I let them out today and they could barely walk, they take 10 steps and lay down in the field for 2 hours, then when they get in the water they can barely bathe themselves, were cutting down their food by a lot since they can pick at bugs on the land. They did swim with my mallard but it is a struggle for them to stay above water. How's your 2 new ones doing today?
Thank you, My ducks have really been getting them going, I guess they don't want to fall behind? They have been swimming I just can't put them in the deep end near the waterfall where the ducks normally jump off, one of them did that and couldn't get back on the rock to get up into the grass. How much should I be feeding them, I've been giving them 1 1/2 hand fulls is that to little or to much? They do seem to pick stuff out of the creek and dirt. It’s going to take time don’t give up on them. They didn’t get this way over night. Just keep doing what your doing.
Alright, I shut their coop so the chickens don't get into it and eat the food and don't spill anything.. so no not really, they hang out in the creek or field (from what I've observed today) Their favorite spot in the middle of the field and attracting hawks, none go after them, thankfully but my chickens might have liked it better without their hawk attracting buddies.I am not sure on how much to feed since I keep feed out during daylight for mine. Do they stay are the feeder a lot? Sounds like they are coming along exercise pool time and nourishing feed plus keep up with the b complex too.
Got it.Hawks will attack and kill and eat on the ground if they can’t carry their prey off so sitting in the middle of the field may not be such a good idea.
I'm curious about this. I have ducks, geese, and chickens. My ducks are out free range all day. I have to lock my chickens up for a large part of the day (while I'm at work) because of goshawks, and red tails. I have never lost a duck to a hawk. I have lost many chickens to hawks. I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and wondering why.Hawks will attack and kill and eat on the ground if they can’t carry their prey off so sitting in the middle of the field may not be such a good idea.
