A chicken tractor is used so you can move youre chickens to a new spot every few days as needed. Instead of being in the same spot like a coop and run.
I love my tractors. The only unfortunate thing is I keep moving them farther from the barn. Soon I will have to take the food and water out to each one with the truck. DH told me to pull a wagon. Humph! Why would I work that hard?
This one is only big enough for 2 or 3 birds. It has a vent on the back door and is under the thread "Remember, I am not a builder" which has pictures of it's construction.
I could put 6 birds in this one but only have had 4 at one time so far. I have bigger wheels on it now for easier moving. It is heavy. I have a thread called, "I'm not a builder" on this one.
This is a quick project. I have built 3 of these in the past 2 weekends. I am still tweaking on it. I put the PVC panels on most of the top on the others and have used hardware cloth on it and as skirting around the bottom.
This is the one DH built. It is a large 10X10 with wire all around it and we use tarps to knock off the wind in the winter. It is totally collapsible or super easy to move with wheels put on it. It has a PVC panel roof and our birds love it. I need a thread with this one but haven't found all the photos on how he built it.
I have been looking at tractor instructions for months. They were not clicking for me. I have a hard time with that kind of thinking, I guess. Well, I just watched the Garden Girl on YouTube. She built a tractor, quickly and simply.
I will watch the video on youtube when I get back from taking the kids to school. I think I convinced my DH to start another whole flock in a chicken tractor. I think I will keep a few of the same kind and have some "pure" eggs! I might even hatch them. Or I will just keep the teenage birds after the brooder in there, I am not sure. Thanks for all the advice!
Now that is what I would like to be able to do! ^^^^
I have never figured out how to build one where I could use my dysfunctional lawnmower.
SoccorMom, I really can't build very well. I have never used a square and goodness knows I have never built anything much before but I have been a helper. That red contraption is the first thing I have ever built by myself! It gets easier the more I build.
The little yellow/blue one was really easy and I can push it around by myself. Any larger and I would have to use the truck. But I am thinking I may go larger. I have a chain and large eye bolts to put on the front of this one but I don't need it since it is on skids and I can push it around. The next one I will need the chain and eye bolts. I'm always thinking of ways to get out of housework!
