I have a Lavender Orpington from Hinkjc's line and was thinking of what I could breed him to other than my Australorp hens. I was thinking about a Light Brahma, but they have a rose comb, and I am not sure how hard it would be to keep the rose comb and not produce single comb birds.

Any suggestions?

Your Brahma shoul have a Pea comb and not a Rose comb...

So, you do think it would be hard to keep the pea comb if bred to single comb bird?

Maybe, I'll use a Delaware.

I wonder why you buy fancy pure breed (or project)- to think what mutt you can create. Why don't buy pure black or lavender hens and breed them pure?

Lavender's are project birds, they are not pure, unless you can ship them from out of state, which you can not do anymore. Alot of breeds do not have lavender, so you have to create them.

If I want to create a mutt, then I will because they are my birds.

The Original Lavender birds I believe are from the UK. They also have the Chocolate Orpingtons that everyone is wanting. But, they can no longer ship to the United States. So, the US breeders have started Lavender Project birds.

What ever project you decide to do, lavender or any color, the most important part of having chickens is enjoying your flock and your chicks.
I like the idea for lavender Dominiques because the lavender Orpington roo you have can carry many genes behind E - extented black (dark brown, lacing, and others). Crossing with Brahma may show these genes and for you will be double work to clean these genes. With Dominiques, you will be working only with type comb and color, not worrying with secondary color patterns.
